This pared-down watch was named the Slow Motion. What remained were clean lines, chunky luminescent indexes, squared-off hands and a high-contrast dial ring, all aimed at maximum legibility. The new Superocean retraces the Slow Motion's celebrated design codes, while adding modern features, like a ceramic-inlayed bezel and brightly colored dials. Broad hands and indexes in luminescent Super-LumiNova® allow for easy readability underwater. The watch is water resistant to 300 m (1000 ft), as well as being shock-, sand- and saltwater-resistant. The bronze version uses a special alloy that has excellent resistance to corrosion, yet will still develop a subtle patina over time that makes the watch even more unique. The two strap options (rubber and metal bracelet) have a folding clasp that allows for micro-adjustments of up to 15 mm for easy wear over rashies and wetsuits. Its scratch-proof ceramic inlayed bezel will never wear or fade. For safety, the bezel is uni-directional on most sizes and bi-directional with a patented lock on the 46 mm. On March 21, 1999, Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones achieved the first nonstop circumnavigation of the globe in a balloon. Landing in the Egyptian desert, their Breitling Orbiter 3 journey covered 45,633 km in 19 days, 21 hours, and 47 minutes. Founded in 1884, Breitling is marking its anniversary with a new addition to its roster of pioneering achievements: the Caliber B19, the brand’s first perpetual calendar chronograph movement. The new caliber makes its debut in three limited-edition 140th-anniversary pieces representing Breitling’s icons: the Premier, Navitimer, and Chronomat. The Premier made its debut in 1943 as the watch that took the chronograph out of the cockpit and into society, making it a symbol—in the words of founder Willy Breitling—of “impeccable taste.” The Navitimer was the first watch for pilots to combine a chronograph with the brand’s proprietary wrist-worn circular slide rule. Originally developed in 1952 for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the Navitimer quickly found favor with a broader audience that included star athletes, musicians, and astronauts—in 1962 it even became the first Swiss wristwatch in space. The Chronomat first launched in 1983 as the official watch of Italy’s aerobatics team, the Frecce Tricolori. The popularity of its design led to a wider release a year later.
